IAN FISHBACK SOCIETY

for MILITARY AND VETERAN SCHOLARS

ABOUT IAN FISHBACK SOCIETY

The Ian Fishback Society for Military and Veteran Scholars is a Military and Veteran operated and led organization dedicated to providing mutual aid and support to service-members (active, guard, reserve) and Veterans who are engaged in research, scholarship, and advocacy that addresses and creates change within the realm of health and well-being in the military community (including military dependents). The Ian Fishback Society purposefully maintains a broad agenda in order to lend support to individuals at multiple stages within their academic and professional career and phases of research, scholarship and advocacy, from aspiring and transitioning student to seasoned academic or applied researcher, regardless of disciplinary or professional background, institutional affiliation, or credentials. Maintaining a far-reaching objective also facilitates open collaboration between multiple disciplines, professions, institutions, and areas of lived experience.

The society is named in honor of Ian Fishback, a former Army officer and veteran of OIF. Ian Fishback was a philosopher, ethicist, teacher, leader, and activist (see https://mwi.usma.edu/the-lessons-ian-fishback-taught-us/). Ian died on November 19th, 2021. This organization recognizes and honors his life and contributions by continuing to advocate and strive for a more just world, especially as it pertains to individuals and communities who participate in or are subjected to violence and conflict.
